The Vice Kings trace their roots back to the 1970s, [6] when Benjamin King organised the youths of Sunnyvale Gardens against Los Carnales . At the time, the Carnales were an unstoppable force who owned the entire city and ran rampant in Sunnyvale, killing and demanding protection money. [7]

Benjamin King and his bangers, including a younger Julius Little , were the only ones to step up and fight back against the Carnales. [8] Through fierce gun play, the Vice Kings were able to force Los Carnales out of Sunnyvale in a few days; after that, they spread out to take the rest of Stilwater. Soon after, retaliation shootings engulfed the projects district in everyday war and while the Vice Kings won, the city had been torn apart and the gang had just become another Los Carnales. Julius Little dropped his flags in disgust. [9]

Dex has a plan to force the police to put pressure on the Vice Kings , which involves Johnny Gat and The Protagonist dressing as Vice Kings gang members and running riot in Stilwater , all while gaining the media's attention. [1]

After donning the Vice Kings' yellow colors, The Protagonist and Johnny Gat drive downtown , where they kill shopkeepers, knock over giant bowling pins, and destroy The Pride of Stilwater . Dex's plan is successful, and the police are forced to apprehend some Vice Kings. Later that day, Benjamin King assures Richard Hughes that it was the 3rd Street Saints who were responsible. Warren Williams complains about King's friendship with City Hall and brandishes a GDHC .50 , stating that it is firepower, and not politics, that gives them power. King, taken aback by Warren's disrespect, promptly tells him to "get the fuck outta [his] office". [2]

The title was originally used by the Crown of Aragon ; where beginning in the 14th century, it referred to the Spanish governors of Sardinia and Corsica . After the unification, at the end of the 15th century, later kings of Spain came to appoint numerous viceroys to rule over various parts of the increasingly vast Spanish Empire in Europe, the Americas, and overseas elsewhere.

In Europe, until the 18th century, the Habsburg crown appointed viceroys of Aragon , Valencia , Catalonia , Navarre , Portugal , Sardinia , Sicily , and Naples . With the ascension of the House of Bourbon to the Spanish throne, the historic Aragonese viceroyalties were replaced by new captaincies general . At the end of War of the Spanish Succession , the Spanish monarchy was shorn of its Italian possessions. These Italian territories, however, continued to have viceroys under their new rulers for some time; Sardinia would have a viceroy until 1848.

During some periods of the Iberian Union , between 1580 and 1640, the King of Spain , who was also King of Portugal , appointed Viceroys to govern Portugal itself , as the king had multiple realms throughout Europe and delegated his powers to various viceroys.

Bang the gong and microwave the popcorn, for rich music beef is once more afoot. This time it's actually an extremely weird beef in that it feels very much like it's happening ten years ago (like, both of the bands involved were on the bill when I went to Reading Festival in 2009 when I was 15, but perhaps it's the case that you just always beef amongst your own.

The bands in question are Placebo and Kings of Leon, which, OK. Basically, Placebo were recently interviewed by Australian website The Music , and when promising that they'd have an excellent show for their Australian fans on their upcoming dates there, they dragged Kings of Leon's not-actually-that-good name through the damn mud:

In all fairness Molko is not wrong—right when they hit their mainstream peak, Kings of Leon were notorious for giving half-arsed live performances, generally not talking to audiences/acknowledging them at all, and just playing some bloody tunes. But, this was some years ago. I am forced to ask: why now? Why has Molko chosen to bring this beef into 2017?
